ASG February meeting minutes:

The meeting was held both in-person at the Student Center and on Zoom. Pizzas were available for lunch. The meeting started roughly at about 12PM.

Morgan B. Whited: Opening remarks about the previous events, trivia night being a success and being well received by students, and remarks about softball.

Ms. Kayleigh Crutchfield: Speaks about events, asks representatives for input about events. Chimezie Finian Nwadinigwe asks about preferred locations being inside or outside. Representatives nod, mention preferring events inside. General opinion about events being conducted within UAMS or outside of UAMS varies among representatives. Ms. Crutchfield passes out a survey regarding student center to representatives, asks them to fill it up when possible during the meeting. Survey asks about student center facilities and future event ideas. Representatives mention some students in their college have families and how child-friendly movies might be a good idea. Ms. Crutchfield mentions how some international students may have difficulty reaching venues located outside of UAMS due to transport issues. However, she also mentions that in the past, movie nights inside UAMS have not done as well as outside UAMS, and asks representatives for their opinions. Morgan asks about pickleball as a potential sports event and refers to Top Golf as well. Representatives nod and say both will be well received by students.

Morgan B. Whited: Speaks about student health insurance verification deadline. Representatives ask about the health insurance verification link not being received. Bushra Zaman tells representatives that she can email the link to them and she had issues finding it in the beginning too. Ms. Crutchfield says it is on the UAMS app. Morgan asks how students should look for the app and if students should just search for it by typing in UAMS. Ms. Crutchfield says yes. Ms. Dedner mentions how roughly 16,000 students are yet to verify their health insurance verification and that the office will begin to be stricter about it. She adds the link in the Zoom chat.

Morgan B. Whited: Mentions questions Dr. Storrie asked her to ask representatives. The questions were mainly regarding movie night preferences. Morgan asked representatives if they had specific movie preferences, preferred timings, and location. Chimezie Finian Nwadinigwe mentioned about also specifically asking whether movie nights inside or outside are preferred.

Morgan B. Whited: asks about the date for the next meeting being March 9th and if students would be available, knowing that is around when spring break is scheduled to start and that different colleges have different times off. The representatives discuss their schedules and say that March 9th looks good so far for the meeting. Bushra Zaman asks if the representatives like the hybrid set up for the meeting.
Morgan B. Whited: Thanked everybody for attending both Zoom and in-person and thanked everybody for their feedback. The meeting ended at roughly 12:35PM.

Students will learn:

  • How to demonstrate professional behavior in the classroom and workplace, including attending on time, participating respectfully, and maintaining clear communication.
  • How to behave professionally at work-related events—such as team meetings, presentations, interdisciplinary collaborations, and networking opportunities.
  • Why these professional behaviors matter: they help build trust, respect, and effective collaboration in STEM and healthcare environments. They also serve as foundational habits that support your success now (in courses, labs, internships) and in your future career.
  • How creating a supportive, inclusive STEM environment amplifies learning and participation for everyone—and how your professionalism contributes to that positive environment.
  •

Why you should attend:

  • Gain practical insight into how your conduct—whether in class, clinical settings, labs, or professional events—impacts your academic and career trajectory.
  • Understand how disciplines like pharmacy, radiology, nursing, public health, and medicine intersect in multidisciplinary STEM-based environments and what professional behavior looks like in those settings.
  • Connect with fellow students across disciplines and reflect on how you can contribute to building a respectful, inclusive STEM community.
  • For questions about the event students should contact Dr. Patrice Storey at 501-686-5358 or email PNstorey@uams.edu .

Students discussed other food pantry options like the Compassion Center and The Van.

Students please also consider and think about spring activities you would like to add and attend. We’re thinking about bringing back Painting with a Twist and Top Golf. However, we ask for your input as it helps to ensure we’re hosting things students enjoy.

ASG officers would like suggestions on more interaction from ASG representatives. Does anyone have any suggestions to increase participation? It was suggested that maybe giving a face-to-face option to meet for ASG meetings may be a good idea.

There will be no ASG meeting in December due to finals and holiday breaks. Also, in the spring there will be no meeting in May due to finals and graduation.
