Student Resource Fair/Constitution Day Online, 9/17/20.
This year constitution day was hosted virtually this year. Nakia put
together a Power Point of varied UAMS Campus Resources on
the Campus Life webpage. The link below will go “live”, 9/17/20
and emailed to all students. Constitution Day is part of NCATE
Accreditation.

DDEI Projects email content sent to ASG Reps and Officers
Project 1–Vinyl Banner and Signing (ASG Diversity Statement)
ASG officers will review the statement draft with the representatives and reps will complete the action items during the meeting. Students will also confirm if the 3rd week of October works for their college. October 19th-23rd is tentatively when signing of the banner will take place (event). Each college will be assigned a day to come sign the banner and receive a boxed lunch and bottle of water. Distribution of lunch will take place during the week to adhere to social distancing guidelines. The banner will sit on 2-8ft tables for signature. ASG and DDEI will join to distribute the meals. Vanessa Lewis,
Cheri Goforth and Nakia Dedner are set up to manage the tables from 11:30-1:00 each day. Nonetheless, ASG reps are needed as well. After the ASG meeting Nakia will forward the final draft of the diversity statement and action items to Dr. Gittens for approval. Once approved, Nakia will forward the final statement to Creative Services (CS) to execute printing. The banner will hang in the Student Center after all students sign the banner. This event will take place in front of the UAMS fountain.

Project 2–Word Cloud
The student body was invited to tell ASG in 1-2 words, what diversity meant to them. The words were collected via survey and compiled to create the word cloud artwork. This too will hang in the Student Center since this is where many students hang out. This project is slated for completion in late October. We thought involving all UAMS students would be a great way to represent the students ASG serve.
The goal is to have all task completed by October 30th. Word cloud draft was approved 9/28/20.

Virtual Student Resource Fair and Constitution Day Presentation 2020
Each year Campus Life and Student Support Services host the Student Resource Fair and Constitution Day. This event provides campus resources and information to all students enrolled at UAMS. However, this year we’re providing this event virtually on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

You may access the various departments by clicking on the link below. We miss you all and hope we can return to our face to face fun soon. Please remember to take the Constitution Day Quiz at the end of the presentation to compete for a prize. To view and play videos, you must be logged into UAMS Box, next click the “open Power Point” at the top of the page, download and play videos (presentation mode) to win a Campus Life Champion t-shirt.

UAMS Residence Hall (Meet up point & supply pick up) Saturday, April 4, 2020, 8:30 am
The Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement event. Arkansas has historically been a leader in volunteerism during this three-month springtime effort by organizing 300 events that involved more than 10,000 volunteers and 45,000 hours of donated time. We will pick up trash on either side of West Markham, starting at the UAMS Residence Hall to Burger King. And Department of Health. Breakfast snacks will be served in the Residence Hall to all participants. Please RSVP Nakia Dedner at
dednernakiaa@uams.edu today!
Insurance Renewal- (On back of flyer) The slide is on the jump drive for you to pull up. It’s labeled AHP 2020-21 Renewal Slide
As you can see from the graph, our pool is significantly smaller than it’s been in the past. A few key factors that cause this are:
Students can remain on parents policies until 26
The Marketplace offers Medicaid to students (free coverage)
Many students are purchasing policies from the Marketplace
UAMS has a soft waiver ( students are not auto enrolled into AHP, as other
universities) A survey was given by ASG and students unanimously voted to
have choices when purchasing insurance coverage. Students do not want to be
automatically enrolled. The AHP renewal meeting was held 2/28/20 and the representative presented key factors, contributors and solutions. Students were able to express their concerns and ask questions.
The Provost has signed off on the increase of 23.5% and rates will post by May 2020 (before open enrollment starts 6/17/20 for Nursing, Jr/Sr Med and Sr Pharm students). Please remember you’re expected to purchase health insurance plans that meet UAMS standards. These can be found on the CLSSS webpage and they’re emailed several times throughout the year. For questions contact Nakia.
*Student health insurance is also calculated into student loans each year
*Moving forward, UAMS Health Insurance Standards will be strictly enforced
Active Shooter- UAMS will be conducting an Active Shooter Exercise on April 2, from 8:00am-12pm. The Emergency Management Division is seeking 20 students for role players and volunteers for the exercise. Students who are interested in participating should contact Greg Stanger, Executive Director of Emergency Management, at gstanger@uams.edu . When emailing please profile name and contact information so Greg may contact you to discuss more details and roles.

Notes
Wednesday, April 1st Spring Fling/Ice Cream Palooza-Music, Mr. Larry Food truck (corndogs/grill chicken, lemonade) Loblolly double cones and cups, 2 workers to move the line faster
Wipe Boards Notes Last month Lindsey Worthington (ASG Rep) asked if wipe boards could be placed into the room in the Rahn building.
The request went to Office of Educational Development (OED)- focuses on improving the teaching and learning experience at UAMS by providing consultation, services, and support in teaching skills and scholarship, eLearning, course design, and evaluation.
I met with the group on Friday (Dr. Boone):
I learned there are 6 rooms currently with chalk and wipe boards: Rahn Rooms: 1/202, 2/280, 3/202, 3/204, G/218,G/222These small conf room have chalk and
whiteboards(small) in the room. Initially told professors like chalk boards and wipe boards not in budget Storage issue – nowhere to store portable boards & can’t be stored in classroom space (tight)
Wipe boards vs Glass ($1000 vs $1500 possible double the cost)
Glass board durable
Wipe board doesn’t clean well also wrong marker used
Portable boards cost more/storage issue—students moving furniture around
campus
Students being creative and writing on windows of IDW
Estimate figure possibly $10,500 will get concrete figures by the 17th
OED prefer to have glass boards (easy to clean no matter what marker used) so OED will make the request to purchase wipe boards. OED provides markers and will continue to supply.
Safety issue after hospital incident (be aware of your surroundings and study in groups when possible. Do not study with back to the door.

ASG IPE Committee Idea
-Want clear path of communication with IPE curriculum board
-Want to make committee through ASG
-Student committee jobs will include answering questions from students,
communicating to their college about new events, and coming up with new
events that correlate with their colleges.
-For example, helping to decide what class IPE will go into.
-IPE board has been able to improve IPE with curriculums that are 2 years due to multiple classes completing IPE in entirety.
-More difficult for 4 year programs like pharmacy and medical school. Current
seniors were the first to see IPE all the way through.
-IPE board wants focus groups across all programs at the end of the year—what did work? What needs to be changed?
-IPE activities have potential to turn into scholarships-poster presentation,
research projects, publications etc
-7 stages of IPE that must be completed—ASG should try to come up with an
activity for each stage
