If you would like to make an appointment, you can do so in two ways:
- Call us at 501-686-8408
- Email us at studentwellness@uams.edu
- Urgent appointments. Please let us know if your situation is urgent. We will see you asap.
- Information needed. When you call, you will be asked to provide some information.
- Your name, college, uams email address, and cell phone number
- A few words about what you need help with. You don’t have to say more than what you are comfortable saying. “Stress” or “anxiety” are fine.
- Preferences. If you have a preference, like meeting with specific therapist, feel free to ask.
What to know
- Hours. Our hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday
- The noon hour. Our front desk is not staffed between 12-1. Therefore, if you call or stop by, there may be no one to answer the door or you may need to leave a message.
- Making appointments for others. Please note that only you can make your appointment. Someone else cannot do it for you except in extenuating circumstances.
- Meeting after 4:30 pm. We offer early evening appointments to those students who cannot make an appointment between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please let us know if you need and early evening appointment.
- Televideo appointments. You can meet in person or via Microsoft Teams, which is secure and HIPAA compliant.
What to expect from your first meeting
- Intake forms. Before your first visit, you will receive an email to complete some online forms.
- First appointment. You will meet with one of our clinicians for approximately 50 minutes. If coming in person, please arrive 15 minutes early. If meeting via Teams, you will be sent a link earlier in the day.
- What we will talk about. We will address your immediate concerns and ask some questions to get a better sense of your mood, functioning, and health history.
- Plan. At the end of the first meeting, you and your clinician will come up with a tentative plan: further sessions, new strategies to try, and/or other resources from which you might benefit.
- Medication consultation. If you would like to consult with a psychiatrist about medication, the clinician will help you set up an appointment in the near future.
